Webster Chicago Model 18-1R Wire Recorder (1949)

An attempted recreation of the Webster Chicago 18-1R Wire Recorder

After watching a video by Techmoan on the Webster Chicago Wire Recorder, I decided to recreate the exterior of it in as much detail as I possibly could as I really loved the design aesthetic overall and it was complex enough in detail around the top and front that I felt it would be a good test of my modelling skills to attempt to try and model it.

When starting this, I decided from the outset that I wanted to try and re-create it as best I could with only minor touches for the sake of making it simpler and so all the textures were re-created to the best of my abilities in Substance Designer. I’m particularly proud of the Bakelite material, mesh and back plate. Though I still need to try and experiment with height maps and gradation as the mesh of the speaker could be greatly improved, but I lack the skills currently to do it as well as I want to. Overall, I feel it came out great though.
